Websites urged to do more to prevent suicide pacts

The North's Health Minister is asking some of the popular websites used by young people to do more to prevent suicide.

Michael McGimpsey says he is concerned that some social networking sites are being used to promote suicide among young people in the North.

He has met Vodafone, Bebo and Google to seek a plan of action within two weeks to prevent their sites being used in suicide pacts.

In June, two young men were found drowned in a Co Tyrone lake after a reported suicide pact on the internet.

Within a month, three more young men, all from the same school, had hung themselves in Craigavon, C. Armagh.
