Human rights watchdogs criticise handling of Corrib protests
Human rights watchdogs have today criticised the Garda handling of anti-Shell protests in Co Mayo.
US-based Global Community Monitor says officers deployed to police demonstrations at Bellinaboy were either untrained or ignored proper procedures to deal with the situation.
Some failed to display ID badges or warn individuals before taking physical action against them, while complaints from the public have not been investigated.
Many protestors reported being followed and confronted by gardaà elsewhere when going about their private business.
