Man charged with 1988 murder of Belfast woman

A 43-year-old man was last night charged with the murder of a pensioner in the North nearly 20 years ago.

Sixty-six-year-old Lily Smith was strangled to death in her home on the outskirts of Belfast in October of 1988.

The accused is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court later this morning.
