Grenade attack may be linked to Mountjoy stabbing

The Gardaí are investigating a link between a grenade attack in south Dublin last night and the death of a prisoner in Mountjoy jail earlier this week.

A number of residents were evacuated from their homes on the Slane Road in Crumlin following an explosion in the area just after 11pm.

It was the second such attack in the south of city in the space of 48 hours following Tuesday night's grenade explosion in the Coombe area.

In last night's attack, a grenade was thrown at a house in the Slane Road area, causing some damage to the building.

The house was empty at the time and nobody was injured.

The Gardaí say they are investigating whether the attack may be connected to the fatal stabbing of 24-year-old Derek Glennon during a fight in Mountjoy Prison on Monday night.

It remains unclear whether last night's incident had any connection to the Coombe grenade attack.
