A 23-year-old man is being questioned by gardaí today after a pipe bomb was thrown from a passing car in west Dublin.

A 23-year-old man is being questioned by gardaí today after a pipe bomb was thrown from a passing car in west Dublin.

The incident happened shortly after 9am when the unexploded device landed on the ground on Lady’s Well Road, Mulhuddart, in the north west of the city, narrowly missing a group of people.

The man was being detained at Blanchardstown Garda station, where he can be held for up to 72 hours.

A number of apartments in the area were evacuated after the bomb disposal unit was called in to make the unexploded device safe.

Gardaí sealed the area off and traffic was diverted from the scene.

No injuries were reported.
