Drugs seized following teen's death
A small amount of cannabis and cocaine were seized by Gardaí during raids on seven houses in Co Cork today, following the death of a 19-year old man.
The body of Padraig O’Keeffe, from Mulane, Cork, was discovered early yesterday morning on a quiet rural road close to Fermoy.
Foul play was ruled out last night after a post mortem exam and it has been speculated the teenager’s death may be drugs-related.
This comes as Gardaí investigate the discoveries of two bodies, one in Mayo and another in Cavan.
A Garda spokesman said a file was being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in connection with the drug seizures.
The search involved around 20 officers under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
A house declared as a crime scene yesterday was one of the seven properties searched.
Mr O’Keeffe’s remains were found on the Rathcormac to Glenville road at around 6am yesterday.
A post mortem exam was carried out last night by the State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy.
However the exact cause of death will not be revealed until the results of a toxicology report becomes available.
Meanwhile, an investigation is underway in Co Cavan after the body of a 40-year old man was found in a laneway three kilometres from Cavan town this morning.
The scene has been preserved for technical examination and the State Pathologist has been called in.
In a separate incident, Gardaí in Mayo are investigating the discovery yesterday of a woman’s body in a remote area of the county.
The remains of the 31-year old woman from Ballina were found at Kilgalligan, Carrowtigue, at around 5.30am.
An investigation was launched and a post mortem exam was expected to take place this morning.
