The new Minister for Social Affairs Martin Cullen is already coming under pressure.

Fine Gael has claimed that Minister Cullen must address the backlog of families waiting to get their Family Income Supplement.

According to the opposition party, thousands of families are being forced to wait more than three months for the payment.

The party's social affairs spokesman David Stanton said another 7,000 applications are pending in the department.
