Last 330 Irish soldiers returning from Liberia

The last remaining Irish soldiers serving with the United Nations in Lebanon are due to return home this week.

Some 330 troops are being withdrawn after successfully completing their mission in the war-torn west African nation.

UN peacekeepers were deployed in 2003 to oversee and implement a ceasefire agreement that ended a four-year civil war.

Meanwhile, the 86 Irish soldiers who have died on UN duty will be remembered today during ceremonies to mark International Peacekeepers Day.
