Ireland exceeding targets on older people in workforce

Ireland has one of the highest employment rates for older people in Europe, according to new figures compiled by the EU.

The figures show that more than 50% of older people are working in Ireland, which exceeds EU targets on the proportion of older people in the workforce.

The EU's Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions says the average Irish worker retires at 64, compared with 58.5 in Slovenia.

Elsewhere, Ireland's minimum wage is the second-highest in Europe, while the country's unemployment rate of 4.4% remains one of the lowest in the EU.
