A primary school in north Cork has been damaged in a fire overnight.

A primary school in north Cork has been damaged in a fire overnight.

The blaze broke out at St Mary's girls' primary school in Mallow at 12.30am.

The flame, which quickly spread to the roof, was brought under control at around 2.30am by fire crews from Mallow, Charleville, Kanturk and Cork city.

Fire fighters remained at the scene until 9.45am this morning.
