New chairman for Residential Institutions Redress Board

Judge Bryan McMahon will be the new Chairman of the Residential Institutions Redress Board, it was revealed this afternoon.

He will succeed the late judge Sean O'Leary who died late last year.

The appointment was announced by the Minister for Education Mary Hanafin.

Minister Hanafin said: "The board forms a central part of the Government's response to help alleviate the effects of abuse suffered by former residents of industrial schools and other residential institutions."
