Hundreds snap up Kate Moss fashions

Hundreds of fashionistas today queued outside high street store Top Shop in Dublin to be the first in the country to get their hands on the hotly-awaited Kate Moss collection.

Some were disappointed the British super model didn’t turn up for the launch but most of the early morning shoppers agreed the clothes range was the undoubted star of the show.

Gardaí were on hand in case traffic problems – that in the end never materialised – caused rush hour chaos around the busy St Stephen’s Green.

“There was quite a rush when we opened the doors just after 8am,” said one of the managers.

“We’ve already sold out of a number of items on the line less than two hours after they went on sale,” she added.

The waiting shoppers – some in line since 5am – were given a special ’breakfast bag’ with a croissant, a shopping voucher and a brochure of the new line.

Among them were school girls who admitted they had “mitched” a day off school to get their hands on the long-awaited range.

The consensus among the hordes was that the 60s style black dress modelled by their icon in the shop window was the must-have of the day.

The bar-necked panel dress had sold out before 10am – with people still queuing outside – while the skinny jeans and skinny vest-top jerseys were also selling fast.

“At this rate we could sell out of the range before the end of the day. But it’s not a limited edition, it’s a continuous line,” said the manager.

A few paparazzi photographers turned out in case Moss, 33, turned out at the capital’s flagship Top Shop store.

But left disappointed with the no-show they headed off to the see if they could catch Bono at a human rights ceremony around the corner.

A special Topshop website had posted the dos and don’ts on how to be a well-behaved shopper in advance of the launch, with those interested being advised to avoid the crowds by shopping online.
