Five held for questioning after overnight shooting in Dublin

A garda investigation is continuing in Dublin into last night's fatal shooting.

A 26-year-old man, who's understood to be from the north inner city, was gunned down shortly before midnight at a block of apartments on Charlemont Road in Clontarf.

Four men and a woman were arrested in follow up investigations.

They are still being held at Clontarf, Raheny and Howth Garda stations.

The man's body has been removed to the city morgue, where a post mortem is taking place.

Superintendent Nicky Conneely from Clontarf Garda Station said: "The information is from an eye-witness, that he saw these two people run away and they carried both a handgun and a shotgun."

"I can't confirm that as yet, until we find out exactly what type of weapon this young man was shot with, but that is the information that's coming in," he said.
