Fine Gael says if it gets into Government it will establish a Victims Charter.

The Charter will ensure that victims are kept informed at all stages of the criminal justice process and will provide better access for victims to compensations.

Speaking at the Fine Gael Ard Fheis in Dublin, Justice spokesman Jim O'Keefe said if returned to power, his party would ensure that victims would get a better deal from the state.

He also said he wanted criminals to pay into the compensation fund for victims.

"I want to see a situation where there will be ongoing contributions from criminals into the Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund. And I also want to establish improved access for victims to that fund," he said.
