The jury in the trial of a Cork man accused of raping a 16-year-old girl has been sent to a hotel overnight having failed to reach a verdict.

Ms Justice Maureen Clark sent the five women and seven men away following more than two hours deliberations at the Central Criminal Court. The jury will resume its work in the / this morning at 10.30.

The 27-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to raping the now 18 year old on October 23, 2005 in a rural area of County Cork. It was day-four of the trial.
