Motorists advised to be careful due to bad weather

Motorists have been advised to drive with extreme caution this evening as treacherous road conditions are expected in most parts of the country.

Six people have already been killed on the country's roads this weekend, while 207 have been arrested for suspected drink driving.

The whole country will be blasted by northerly winds tonight and as much as five centimetres of snow are expected to fall in Connacht, Ulster and North Leinster.

Met Eireann's Joan Blackburn has said driving conditions will be dangerous.

Five of the six people killed so far this weekend died in County Donegal.
