Gallery to get €5m revamp
The National Gallery is to get a €5m, it emerged today.
Refurbishment of the facility’s historic buildings will be carried out by five Dublin firms.
Architectural services on the project will make up €3.47m of the total cost and will be provided by Heneghan Peng Architects.
Founded in 1854, the gallery houses some 2,500 paintings, as well as water-colours, drawings, prints and sculpture.
The Millennium Wing, which showcases temporary exhibitions, was the last major refurbishment in 2002.
The latest refurbishment contract will include quantity surveying services as well as mechanical and electrical engineering, structural engineering and fire safety consultancy.
The Office of Public Works received a total of 59 Irish and international tenders for the contract.
