Church of Ireland to install new primate in Armagh

The Church of Ireland is installing its new primate today following the retirement of Dr Robin Eames.

The Right Reverend Alan Harper is to be enthroned at St Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh this afternoon.

Born in England, Archbishop Harper studied theology in Dublin and served as a minister in Moville, Co Donegal, as well as in Derry and Belfast.

He is regarded as a relative liberal on the debate on homosexuality within the church, believing gay people are born with their sexuality and same-sex relationships are not sinful as long as they are faithful and monogamous.
