Greens on course to gain seat in Carlow-Kilkenny

The Green Party is on course to gain a seat in the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency in the forthcoming general election.

A poll carried out for The Carlow Nationalist indicates that Mary White, the Greens' deputy leader, would take the fourth seat in the five-seat constituency if the election were held today.

Ms White's first-preference tally is up by four percentage points in the poll compared to the results of the last election.

Elsewhere, the poll predicts Fianna Fáil will hold onto its three seats, with Fine Gael TD Phil Hogan claiming the fifth.

Labour, meanwhile, looks like losing the seat it has held in the constituency since 1961 by Leas Ceann Comhairle Seamus Pattison.
