Aer Lingus unions to decide on industrial action

The craft trade unions at Aer Lingus will wait until next week to decide on what industrial action to take against the airline.

Last week members voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action over a dispute with management about the introduction of new contracts.

Earlier today the airline issued a warning that travel disruption is possible next week, prompting the Taoiseach to appeal to both sides to resolve the row.

Chairman of the Aer Lingus Craft Group of Trade Unions Brian Gormley is hoping Aer Lingus takes Bertie Ahern's suggestion seriously.

Mr Gormley added: "I'm hoping that Aer Lingus will realise that they've put the unions in a position where they have no alternative, we're not seeking a row with the company but what can we do?"
