Minister for Justice Michael McDowell has hinted that the State may cut off welfare payments for persons arrested on drugs charges where there is evidence of unexplained assets.

Independent TD for Dublin Central, Tony Gregory, told the Dáil that Gardaí recently arrested suspects in his area for possession of drugs who owned new jeeps and plasma televisions, and had just returned from skiing holidays.
