11 months for teen who stole Porsche

A teenager, who stole a Porsche car, has been detained for 11 months, over a spate of motor thefts.

The 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children’s Court yesterday to a spate of car thefts and one burglary charge which occurred in north Co Dublin last year. He also admitted another offence for breaking into car.

Judge Catherine Murphy was told that on September 16 last, a Porsche care was stolen from a driveway of a house in Clontarf. Garda James Neary of Santry Station said the teen was seen parking it in Darndale.

“The car was recovered by the keys were not and as a result the owners had to get their car and house locks changed,” he said.

On October 28 last, the north Dublin teen, who had previously been detained for criminal damage and attempted car theft offences, broke into a house and stole a camcorder. The next day he broke into a car and from it he stole a set of bolt cutters.

On the same day he was spotted driving a stolen car which had been taken in Clontarf that day.

Earlier, on July 21 last, a car was stolen in Baldoyle. The teen was linked to the theft by finger-print evidence.

The court heard that the boy, who was supported in court by his mother, had developed a drug problem which he hoped to overcome in custody.

The boy also intends to use his time in custody to re-start his education and to complete the Junior Certificate, his counsel told Judge Murphy.

Judge Murphy imposed sentences totalling 11 months, to be served in St Patrick’s Institution. The boy is also to face sentence next month for writing off a car he stole and which had €2,000 worth of damages.
