Gangland shooting victim 'critical'

A young man was fighting for his life today after being shot several times in a gangland attack in Dublin.

The 22-year-old was hit in the face, leg, arms and shoulder after a gunman entered a house in Gray Square, off Meath Street, in the Liberties.

He was in a critical but stable condition in St James’ Hospital.

Gardaí were linking the attack to the long-running and deadly feud between Crumlin and Drimnagh crime gangs.

The attack happened just after 9pm when a man armed with a shotgun called at the house and shot the 22-year-old a number of times.

The victim, who is known to gardaí, suffered serious pellet wounds to his limbs.

The scene remained sealed off overnight and a forensic examination was being carried out later today.

Gardaí said the gunman was over 6ft tall and escaped in a waiting car. They appealed for anyone with information to contact them at Kevin Street Garda Station.

The bitter feud between two rival drug dealing gangs from Drimnagh and Crumlin, in the south of the city, has claimed nine lives.
