Cutbacks looming at Shannon airport

The executive chairman says Dublin Airport Authority has withdrawn a €35m restructuring deal for Shannon Airport, after it was rejected by unions.

The measures included reducing costs by nine million euro per annum through 200 voluntary redundancies.

The DAA also wanted increased flexibility in work practices and working hours.

The government meanwhile is under fire for allegedly doing an apparent u-turn on a pledge of debt free status at Cork airport in connection with the construction of a new terminal.

It's claimed that a deal releasing the airport of a construction cost of €100m has now been broken despite assurances from government in writing and later in person by the Taoiseach to airport management and staff.
