Body discovered in river Corrib in Galway city

A body has been found in the river Corrib in Galway city.

A passerby made the discovery this afternoon at Nimmo's Pier, and alerted the Gardaí.

The fire brigade's water unit is currently at the scene, and working to recover the body from the water.

It is not yet clear whether the body is that of a man or a woman.
