A Limerick drug courier will be sentenced on February 26 at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for having a cache of amphetamine tablets in a car stopped following a chase by gardai over two years ago.

John Costello (26), of Hennessy Avenue, Kileely, County Limerick pleaded guilty on day-two of his trial last June at Portlaoise Circuit Criminal Court to having unlawful possession of 3 kilograms of amphetamine tablets valued €45,000 for sale or supply.

Costello was in a car accompanied by another man when it was stopped down a laneway near a cemetery at Dysarthbheigh, Mountrath, County Laois on September 1, 2004 by Detective Garda Daragh O’Toole and other members of the National Drugs Unit who were carrying out a surveillance operation.

The drugs were discovered in the car and were destined for distribution in the Limerick and Clare area.
