Clare Man charged in connection with death of brother

A 26-year-old man appeared in court today in connection with the death of a man in Co. Clare last Sunday.

At a special sitting of Ennis district court, Patrick McDonagh of Bridgecourt, Roslevan was charged with assault causing harm to his brother Charlie McDonagh.

The 30-year-old father of three died after being stabbed following a row near his home in the Bridgecourt estate.

Patrick McDonagh was charged under section three of the non-fatal offences against the person act, with a further charge under section eleven of the firearms and offensive weapons act, for possession of a knife on the 28th of January last.

In objection to bail, Garda Inspector Kevin Moynihan stated that there was a fear the accused, a married father of three, could interfere with witnesses in the case.

Patrick McDonagh's solicitor argued that his client had never interfered with witnesses and would undertake not to.

The accused was remanded on continuing bail with a number of conditions - that he reside at an alternative address, that he not go within one mile of Bridgecourt, Roslevan and that he surrender his passport.

He must also sign on daily at Ennis Garda stations.
