Detectives investigating the killing of a married father-of-three in a stabbing attack today arrested a man.

Detectives investigating the killing of a married father-of-three in a stabbing attack today arrested a man.

The 26-year-old is being questioned about the death of Charlie McDonagh (aged 30) in Ennis, Co Clare, on Sunday.

The victim died of stab wounds after a row in the early hours of the morning at Bridge Court housing estate in the town.

Mr McDonagh’s brother was treated at University College Hospital Galway for wounds to his arm following the disturbance.

A sister of both men was also slightly injured during the incident.

Gardaí arrested the man under the provisions of section four of the Criminal Justice Act.

He is being detained at Ennis Garda Station, where he can be held for up to 24 hours, after which he must be either charged or released.

Investigating gardaí said they were following a definite line of inquiry.

Three weapons were recovered from the scene, but details were not released for operational reasons.
