Seven fishermen rescued after trawler sinks

Seven fishermen were rescued after their vessel sank 167km off the south coast this morning.

Seventy-seven-foot trawler The Discovery - which fishes out of Castletownbare - was en route to Rotterdam when it got into difficulty.

A search and rescue operation was launched, involving two British Coastguard helicopters, the Irish Air Corps and Naval vessel the LE Niamh.

The crewmen - including two Irish and two non-nationals - were found in life-rafts and taken to safety.
