Irish jockey Murphy dies after fall in Australia
Irish jockey Damien Murphy has died with his mother and sister at his hospital bedside in Sydney following a race fall at Wellington, in central-west NSW.
The 23-year-old, who chased his dream of becoming a jockey to Australia 12 months ago, died after being removed from life support at Sydney's Nepean Hospital.
A hospital spokeswoman said Murphy died just after 9am Irish time today.
He never regained consciousness after crashing to the turf when his mount, Ajay's Luck, clipped the heels of another runner nearing the finish of a race at Wellington on Tuesday.
