EC orders Govt to explain favourable treatment of VHI

The European Commission has given the Government one month to explain why it is allowing the VHI to hold such a dominant position in the Irish health insurance market.

The commission says it wants to know what the company is exempt from certain rules facing its competitors and why it is allowed to offer travel and dental insurance contrary to European law.
