Protest at A&E waiting times at Mater Hospital

A protest at waiting times in Accident and Emergency units took place outside the Mater hospital in Dublin this afternoon.

It follows figures released by the Health Service Executive earlier this week showing numbers waiting on hospital trolleys for more than 24 hours were down from 9% in May 2005 to 4% in December.

Labour TD Joe Costello led the protest at the north Dublin hospital, and has led similar ones for the past three years.

He said the situation at the Mater is mirrored in other Accident and Emergency units around the country.
