New train station to ease traffic around Mater Hospital
Plans are underway to build a new train station in Dublin's north inner city, to ease traffic congestion around the Mater Hospital.
It comes amid protests the Mater is not a suitable site for the new National Children's Hospital, due to traffic problems.
It is understood that CIE is now considering developing a new station on the Canal End rail line near Croke Park.
There is also the possibility of re-opening an existing rail tunnel under the Phoenix Park, which could be connected to lines out of Dublin.
