Gardaí in Dublin have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 60-year-old man in a knife attack last night.

Gardaí in Dublin have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 60-year-old man in a knife attack last night.

The victim was stabbed to death by two men who called to his house on Tymonville Road in Tallaght just before 10pm.

The attackers, who were armed with a hammer and a knife, assaulted a woman who answered the door and then barged into the kitchen, where they stabbed the dead man a number of times.

They then fled the scene in the direction of Tymon North Road.

The victim was taken from the house to Tallaght Hospital, where he died around an hour later.

The scene of the attack has been sealed off for forensic examination and the State Pathologist has also been notified.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward with any information they may have.
