Crumlin pulls out of National Children’s Hospital project

The Health Service Executive says it is disappointed that Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin has decided not to be integrated into the planned new National Children's Hospital.

The new facility was supposed to replace the existing three children's hospitals in Crumlin, Tallaght and Temple Street.

However, Crumlin's board is understood to have pulled out of the project in protest at the planned location for the new hospital alongside the Mater Hospital in north Dublin.

It believes the location is totally unsuitable.

The HSE says it finds it difficult to understand the basis upon which the board made this decision and hopes that it will rethink the move and participate in the new facility.
