Murder investigation launched into Cork stabbing
A murder investigation has begun in Cork after a man died in hospital following an assault on New Year's Eve.
The 39-year-old was rushed to hospital after he was attacked at his home on the Ballinlough Road in the city.
The man died yesterday morning in Cork University Hospital where he had been in a serious condition for the past week.
State pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy carried out a post mortem on the man's body yesterday afternoon.
The examination found that the man, whose name has not yet been released, died from a stab wound.
Gardaí at Angelsea Street launched a full scale murder inquiry following the result of the post mortem examination.
