The body of 20-year-old student missing in Cork for the past three weeks has been recovered from the River Lee today.

Joseph Mullally was reported missing after a night out with friends in the city on December 15.

Scores of volunteers and emergency personnel have spent the past few weeks searching the river and the lower harbour area for the Innishannon man.

Just before 10am today, one of the searchers spotted Mr Mullaly's body in the water near the shoreline at the Millennium Gardens.

It was later identified as that of the 20-year-old.

A post mortem will be carried out later to determine the cause of his death, but gardaí are not treating it as suspicious.
