€26m for new Air Corps helicopters

The Minister for Defence Willie O’Dea has signed a contract worth €26m for two new helicopters for the Air Corps.

The Minister for Defence Willie O’Dea has signed a contract worth €26m for two new helicopters for the Air Corps.

They will bring the Corps number of new helicopters to eight.

The twin engine Agusta/Westland aircraft can carry up to 15 soldiers and can fly at night.

The helicopters will be used for Army exercises, Garda support and disaster relief operations.
