Kilkenny girl believed to have died by drowning

It is understood 16-year-old Ciara Gibbs who was found dead at her home in Gowran, Co Kilkenny over the weekend may have died from drowning.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the death and are hoping to interview her mother today.

The status of the investigation remains one of an unexplained death but gardaí say they will not be releasing the results of a post mortem examination for operational reasons.

Her mother was found unconscious beside her and was admitted to hospital where her condition is described as serious but not life-threatening.
