Govt failing to prevent child trafficking through Ireland - ISPCC
The ISPCC has accused the Government of failing to adhere to international standards in preventing child trafficking.
The council says 316 children have gone missing in Ireland over the past four years and the US government has identified the country as a transit and destination location for trafficking victims.
The ISPCC is demanding that the Government commit itself to investigating the whereabouts of missing children and implementing international standards to ensure Ireland is not a trafficking gateway.
These standards would include setting up teams at airports and seaports to identify trafficking victims and appointing a guardian for every separated child who enters the country.
