Man dies in prison cell

A prisoner has died at Cloverhill Prison in Dublin, it was confirmed today.

Prison staff found the man, believed to be in his 20s, in his cell shortly before 3pm yesterday.

An Irish Prison Services spokesman said he was taken to hospital in Tallaght where he was pronounced dead.

The man had been in court yesterday and was remanded back to Cloverhill Prison. It is believed he intended to kill himself.
