Three men armed with a knife have escaped with an undisclosed sum of money after raiding a shop on the outskirts of Galway city this morning.

The men, who were in their late teens to early 20s and had their faces covered, held up the assistance manager of the Supervalu in Ballybane while he was opening up just before 6.30am.

They forced him into an internal office at knifepoint before fleeing the scene in a green car that was stolen outside the city last night.

The vehicle was found abandoned shortly after this morning's robbery.
