Govt urged to abolish tax relief threshold on donations
Aid agency Gorta is calling on the Government to abolish the minimum threshold on tax relief for charitable donations.
At present, all donations over €250-a-year qualify for tax relief and most donors give their savings to the charity itself, making their donation worth up to €430.
In its pre-budget submission, Gorta is calling on Minister for Finance Brian Cowen to make such relief available on all donations, saying it would cost only a tiny amount compared to the tax relief on pension contributions.
