Gardaí across the country are to be instructed to conduct alcohol breath-tests on all motorists involved in crashes.

The move was first announced by Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy yesterday during an address to the Oireachtas Transport Committee.

He also made the promise during talks today with road safety campaigners from Donegal, which has one of the highest rates of road deaths nationwide.

Spokesperson Susan Gray, who lost her husband in a crash, has welcomed the news, saying it should clear up any doubt about where drink is a factor in the event of a car accident.
