A nurse accused of assaulting and poisoning two hospital patients has been convicted on one of four charges.

35 year-old Noreen Mulholland of Park Road in Portadown has been found guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

After eight hours of deliberation the six man and six woman jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict that Noreen Mulholland poisoned 77 year-old John Gethings at Naas General Hospital in 2003.

Mr Gethings from Baltinglass in Co Wicklow died at the hospital in March that year.

The jury's been sent out to continuing deliberation on three other charges of assault causing harm to Mr Gethings, and assaulting and poisoning 80-year-old Seamus Doherty who was also a patient at the hospital.

Nurse Mulholland denies the charges.
