McDowell calls for update of criminal justice system

Minister for Justice Michael McDowell said today that Ireland needs to update its criminal justice system to bring it into line with modern developments.

Minister McDowell rejected claims that his proposals to examine issues such as the right to silence were a ploy to win votes in the next election.
