Hospital to test former patients for Hep C
Up to 100 people who attended Crumlin Children’s Hospital in the early 1990s are reportedly being recalled for tests amid a Hepatitis C scare.
Reports this morning say the recall was taking place because blood platelets given to patients at the hospital between 1991 and 1994 were not tested for the disease.
The affected patients, who would now be young adults, are expected to be contacted in the coming days and asked to come in for tests.
Reports this morning say the move is precautionary and it is unlikely that any Hepatitis C infections will be uncovered.
Platelets are a blood-clotting component often used in the treatment of cancer patients and haemophiliacs.
