Immigrant workers earn approximately 19% less than similarly-qualified Irish workers, according to new research, carried out by the Economic Social Research Institute.

The report was unveiled earlier today at the Dublin Economic Workshop in Co Kerry and shows that those coming from non-English speaking countries rank lowest when it comes to wages.

One of the authors, Doctor Alan Barrett, said that it seems that the English language plays an important role in the Irish labour market.
