Coroner urges doctors to report cases where MRSA is cause of death

Dublin City's Coroner has told doctors to report cases where MRSA was a patient's cause of death.

Dublin City's Coroner has told doctors to report cases where MRSA was a patient's cause of death.

Dr Brian Farrell says many cases where a patient dies as a result of environmental factors in a hospital are not reported to his office.

He says if a patient dies from MRSA rather than with the superbug it must be examined further.

Margaret Dawson of MRSA and families says the move's a big step forward.

She added, “Hopefully, all the other demands that we're looking for will follow because, as I've said, we do have a crisis in our Irish hospitals and we can no longer turn a blind eye - it has to be addressed."
