The Irish Cancer Society is calling on the health services to double the number of neurosurgeons working in Ireland.

The society says there are currently just six consultants practising publicly in Dublin and three in Cork.

Surgeons say this has led to pressure within the system that needs to be addressed through the hiring of extra specialists.
